UK 'will certainly see more electric vehicles'

Date: 17/1/2011
Over the years, the UK will "certainly see" more electric and hybrid vehicles on its roads, one sector commentator has claimed.Dr Ben Lane from nextgreencar.com said that many petrol and diesel-powered cars already have stop-start technology, which he pointed out was the first step towards being a hybrid.
"I think what will happen is that the technology that is already happening will make its way to conventional vehicles," he added.
Dr Green claimed that in the future, the country will see a "nice feed-in" from purely electric cars that would make hybrid engines slightly cheaper and conventional vehicles cleaner.
According to research by KPMG, while affordable electric motors are expected by sector executives to not be available to the mass market until 2015, their introduction will receive government support in the form of subsidies.
It added that the future take-up of these vehicles would be influenced by urban planning and environmental restrictions.
