UK rail network maintains high punctuality levels

Date: 9/10/2009
The UK's train service has maintained record high levels of reliability.According to Network Rail, 93.6 per cent of trains arrived at their destination on time in the last month.
First Transpennine Express has made a six per cent improvement on its punctuality in the last year, with 95.8 per cent of its trains arriving on schedule.
Robin Gisby, director of operations and customer service at Network Rail, said: "Passengers have seen good train punctuality over the past six months and our challenge is to maintain comparatively high levels in the autumn months ahead."
Other operators that saw high levels of year-on-year improvement include London Midland, Virgin Trains and Arriva Trains Wales.
However, seven of the UK's 19 rail operators did not see an improvement in punctuality.
The news comes weeks after a major planned rail strike in East Anglia was averted, which could have caused disruption for people travelling into the capital.
