UK supply chain needs support of politicians

Date: 4/3/2010
It is more important than ever that the logistics sector is given political support at the highest level, according to Jo Tanner, spokesperson for the Freight Transport Association (FTA)."Too readily politicians will treat logistics as little more than a cash cow and fail to tap into the huge potential to save money, drive environmental efficiency and improve road safety," Miss Tanner told Lloyd's Loading List.
Her comments emerge as the FTA has published a manifesto which calls for politicians to make five key commitments for a more prosperous future for the UK.
She goes on to add that it is time that politicians listened to the logistics sector and that everyone can reap the benefits of safer roads, greener business practices and a more efficient supply chain.
The five commitments include investment in infrastructure, finding carbon solutions, changing the Highway Code, respect for commercial vehicles and finding solutions to truck crimes, according to the FTA.
