UK's weather places additional burden on driver safety

Date: 23/7/2013
The UK's recent warm and wet weather could prove hazardous for drivers and once again brings safety issues to the forefront.Yesterday (July 22nd) was the hottest day of the year in the country as temperatures reached 33 degrees C and this has been followed by thunderstorms, which can create serious safety concerns for people.
GEM Chief Executive Officer David Williams noted rubber and oil deposits typically build up when there are continuously long periods of dry weather.
"These then become hazardous when rainfall churns up the residue, making it harder for tyres to grip the road surface," he added.
The resulting slippery conditions can prove to be very hazardous and so motorists are being urged to demonstrate extreme caution, especially under braking.
Drivers are also advised to check the condition of their windscreen wiper blades after a hot, dry spell, because deposits - which could smear the screen - often get lodged.
