Date: 11/2/2010
Trains across Scotland are likely to have disrupted services as aounrd 550 members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) are planning to strike over the absence of conductors on a new train service.Industrial action is planned for February 20th, March 1st and March 13th.
The third day of strikes will take place on the same day as the Scotland vs England Six Nations rugby match in Edinburgh, likely to cause considerable disruption.
RMT workers are protesting over a new £300 million railway that is due to open in December.
The railway will be operated by drivers and ticket inspectors rather than conductors.
RMT general secretary Bob Crow argued that ScotRail is putting financial considerations before safety, noting that properly trained conductors can save lives.
Conductors, drivers and sleeper-train managers are all expected to take part in the industrial action.
