Used car prices higher in good weather, study shows

Used car prices higher in good weather, study shows

Date: 22/5/2012

New research suggests the weather could affect how much used cars can be sold for.

Conducted by Chris Crow, Chief Editor at car pricing company CAP, the study discovered the better the weather, the higher the cost of the motor.

He compared sales in 2002 and 2006 - two years with similar economic conditions when inflation was below three per cent and gross domestic product growth was at 2.6 per cent.

The summer of 2006 turned out to be far better than in 2002 and this led to improved sales of used cars, despite the financial climate being so similar.

"For motorists it means there are undoubtedly more bargains to be had when the weather is poor," Mr Crow stated.

He noted extra sunshine had a particular impact on the price of convertible vehicles.

HPI recently warned anyone buying used cars to check the mileage is accurate, as figures suggest around a million people could be driving a motor that has been clocked.
