Vehicle maintenance 'an important preparation before bank holiday'

Date: 26/4/2011
The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th has meant that Britons will enjoy two bank holiday weekends this month, although those planning to take advantage of this by going on a road trip have been reminded to keep safety in mind.According to Motor Codes, it is important to ensure a vehicle is well-maintained all year round and an improvement in the weather should not be an excuse for drivers to develop a false sense of security.
When the temperature is hot, problems such as broken air conditioning, overheated engines or tyres that have not been properly inflated could all pose a problem, the group notes.
Chris Mason, managing director at Motor Codes, says: "Proper planning and a pre-holiday health check at a reputable garage can help make the trip as stress-free as the traffic jams allow."
In terms of buses and trains over the bank holiday, Transport for London advised last month that the easiest way to journey across the capital for people who wish to be there on the day of the wedding is to purchase an Oyster card.
Peter Hendy, London's Transport Commissioner, also noted that the department is committed to ensuring that people are able to get around safely and easily on the big day.
