Vehicles eligible for Plug-In Car Grant announced

Date: 14/12/2010

The first selection of vehicles eligible for the new Plug-In Car Grant have been revealed.

Among the cars on the list are the Peugeot iOn, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Tata Vista, Nissan Leaf and Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

Details were also laid out by the Transport Secretary Philip Hammond and the Business Minister Mark Prisk unveiling the UK location that will receive funding in the second round of Plugged-In Places.

Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive, stated the transition to low-carbon vehicles is a great opportunity for the motor industry in this country.

"The motor industry is making great progress in delivering practical, low-carbon vehicles and we will see further progress of new and conventional technologies in the years ahead," he added.

Neil Wallis, Head of Communications at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, recently claimed the move towards eco-friendly models in the UK will be as a result of cost incentives rather than environmental concerns.
