Westminster summit to discuss Somerset road improvements

Date: 14/3/2012
A summit is being held in Westminster tomorrow (March 15th) to discuss improvements to roads in Somerset.Somerset County Council leader Ken Maddock will meet with MPs from the south-west to talk about how altering the A303 and A358 could boost the area's economic prospects.
He claimed adding sections to the dual carriageways would help to boost tourism and business in the area.
A task group has been established to develop proposals, which includes the Highways Agency and city council representatives from Plymouth, Wiltshire, Somerset, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.
"Speeding up journey times and improving reliability between the West Country and London and the south-east would be crucial in terms of encouraging inward investment, moving goods and creating new jobs," Mr Maddock added.
Last month, work began to resurface the A358 from Taunton to Ilminster, with most of the project taking place overnight to keep disruption to a minimum, the Yeovil Express reported.
