Winners of London Transport Awards announced

Hounslow was recognised with the prestigious Transport Borough of the Year accolade at last week's 2011 London Transport Awards.

Commending those who make a difference to transportation within the capital city, the annual event - which was held at West London's Novotel and hosted by radio and television personality Grant Scott - also saw the London Overground officially named Public Transport Operator of the Year.

Peter Hendy, Transport Commissioner for Transport for London, said at the event on April 29th: "I strongly support these awards and their role in marking the many achievements and the ongoing commitment of the transport industry to keeping this great city moving."

Hounslow, which took home the Most Improved Transport Borough accolade in 2008, was awarded the honour primarily for its implementation of cycling, walking and bus priority lane schemes, according to the Transport Times.

Elsewhere, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson recently announced plans to implement a new cable car, with work starting this summer in the capital city to boost the continuing regeneration of the East End.
