Woman dies in bus incident

Woman dies in bus incident

Date: 1/6/2010

Traffic police in Manchester are asking for help in tracking down a cyclist they want to speak to after a woman died when she fell over on a bus.

The driver had to brake sharply when a cyclist appeared in the road on Oxford Street.

As the bus came to a stop, 78-year-old Louie Palmer fell forward and suffered a serious neck injury.

She died a short time later and another lady needed treatment for a broken arm.

Police Constable Pete Philips remarked: "The bus driver had to take evasive action to avoid a cyclist who was in the road."

He added officers want the cyclist to come forward so they can work out what caused the incident, which happened at around 10:15 BST on Friday May 28th.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a 20-year-old man who died after the vehicle in which he was travelling hit a tree in Lees New Road, Oldham.
