Women drivers 'use the car mirror to apply make-up'

Women drivers 'use the car mirror to apply make-up'

Date: 12/7/2010

Female drivers are compromising road safety, a new report from Churchill has suggested.

More than 20 per cent of women motorists have admitted they frequently take their eyes off the road to look at themselves in the mirror when behind the wheel.

Of those quizzed, 25 per cent confessed to driving while wearing high-heeled shoes and seven per cent stated they apply make-up when driving.

"Women get a lot of bad press for their driving skills, however, men can be dangerously distracted too," remarked Claire Foster from Churchill.

Males did not fare much better than their female counterparts, as eight per cent explained they have changed their clothes while driving or had a shave.

Last week, findings from a report by TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) revealed listening to sport when motoring can slow reactions down by as much as 20 per cent in vehicles travelling at 70 miles per hour.
