Work begins to improve traffic flow in Armadale

Date: 16/8/2011
The West Lothian town of Armadale is the location of a new programme of work designed to improve traffic flow in the area.West Lothian Council reveals that its Executive has given the green light to initiate statutory procedures for a project aimed at amending waiting restrictions.
The next move is to see a traffic order being advertised so that any objections can be raised and recorded before the initiative moves forward.
This follows a review in March where local officials including police, managers in the town centre and councillors were asked to give their views on concerns that the current waiting restrictions and signs were being blighted by irregularities.
During this process, another problem came to light - that of congestion being caused by vehicles double-parking in one area of the town.
Proposals for new regulations include introducing limited waiting bays and banning unloading in some spots, which the local authority's Traffic Management team believe could help improve access to the area.
Executive Councillor for Development and Transport Martyn Day says: "The recommended proposals should enhance road safety for both drivers and pedestrians, improve traffic flows and make deliveries and access easier to business and private properties."
In an effort to reduce carbon emissions, the Council supports TripshareWestLothian.com - a facility that allows commuters to find someone who takes a similar journey each day with whom to share transport.
