Date: 16/8/2011
London Bridge bus station and taxi rank will be shut this weekend (August 27th to 28th) in order to allow work to go ahead as part of the Thameslink Programme. In addition, suspensions are scheduled for the Northern Line service through Elephant and Castle, London Bridge and St Pancras.
The Thameslink Programme, using £6 billion of government funding, is aiming to solve the problem of overcrowding on the tube network through a series of measures, including improving stations, introducing more destinations to services and rolling out new trains.
According to Transport for London, during this weekend's closures buses will collect and drop off passengers at stops along the bridge, rather than at the main station.
Meanwhile, people wishing to hire a taxi can head for the ranks on Tooley Street, it advises.
Over the weekend, four steel girders are set to be lifted into place in order to build a new viaduct above Station Approach.
In addition, resurfacing work will be carried out on Borough High Street, where traffic management restrictions will remain in place to avoid congestion.
