Work begins on Scottish bypass

Date: 2/2/2010

A £31.5 million bypass project has commenced on the main road between Aberdeen and Inverness, according to reports.

The bypass is to be built around the towns of Fochabers and Mosstodloch, significantly reducing traffic congestion.

Motorists on the A96 road will instead be able to use a new 5km stretch of road between Aberdeen and Inverness.

It is hoped the bypass will be complete by 2012 and is being undertaken by Morrison Construction.

According to the BBC, transport minister Stewart Stevenson commented on the project: "This is an essential route in Scotland's trunk road network and I'm delighted to personally kick off construction on this vital project."

He added that as well as easing congestion in and around Fochabers and Mosstodloch, the new road will carry economic benefits for businesses and communities across the region.
