Yorkshire residents asked for their views on local transport

Yorkshire residents asked for their views on local transport

Date: 12/5/2010

People in North Yorkshire are being asked for their opinions on what can be done to improve local transport.

A number of public exhibitions are being held across the region over the next two months, including at Scarborough St Nicholas car park, Northallerton town hall, Richmond Market Place and Harrogate War Memorial, the Northern Echo reports.

The county council is creating its third Local Transport Plan, which will set out suggestions for the ongoing maintenance of the transport system until 2016.

A draft with proposals on improving road safety, promoting the advantages of using sustainable transport and easing congestion will be put forward by the organisation.

Meanwhile, members of the local authority are calling for upgrades to the rail line between Harrogate and York.

Councillor Cliff Trotter said the work could help to reduce the area's carbon footprint and he noted the service is used by a large number of residents, so would benefit from changes.
