A scheme that aimed to address safety issues faced by young and occupational drivers has been honoured with an accolade. The Young Drivers at Work Project - run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) - received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.
After conducting a survey to better understand the hazards for motorists aged 17 to 24 while they are at work, the RoSPA organised a workshop where young employees discussed the causes of accidents and strategies to improve safety, including what support their managers could give them.
Tom Mullarkey, Chief Executive of the organisation, said the project addressed "two of the UK's most challenging safety issues - young drivers and occupational drivers."
He added he hopes many employers and workers will benefit from the workshops.
The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland also recently received one of the Prince Michael awards for its successful anti-drink driving campaign in 2009.
