Youngsters learning to drive 'need educating on the dangers'

Date: 30/4/2010
A new scheme has been launched to warn young people and new drivers of the dangers they face out on the roads.National road safety charity Brake is behind the initiative, which lets driving instructors sign up to the organisation's buddy project.
Caroline Perry from Brake remarked: "Deaths and injuries on roads caused by young drivers driving too fast, drunk, drugged and without seatbelts devastate families and communities."
She added that instructors have a valuable role in educating learners about the responsibility that comes with driving.
Participants who take part in the plans will get a number of resources which include a Sober Up leaflet and a 2Young2Die pamphlet written especially for inexperienced drivers that can be used to discuss the issues faced.
The Motorcycle Industry Association recently suggested that motorcycle licenses should be given out based on training rather than test results in a bid to improve safety awareness among bikers.
