Youngsters team up with police to stop speeding

Date: 28/4/2010
Schoolchildren in Yorkshire have been working with local police in a bid to curb speeding in the area.Youngsters from St John's Church of England Primary School, Dodworth, Barnsley stood outside their school monitoring motorists.
The kids used a speed indication device to determine what speed drivers are travelling at and the initiative got underway yesterday (April 27th), lasting for around 90 minutes.
Police Community Support Officer Emma Glover is from the force's Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) and was present at the event.
She said: "For motorists to be told about their speeding by children hits home much harder than if police tell them. People often feel much more ashamed when a child tells them their speed could kill."
Barnsley has ten SNTs, which are made up of council staff and police officers and their job is to liaise with the local community working on any issues they may have.
