New Guidance Launched to Boost Access to Rail Travel

Date: 29/7/2013
TRL and TTR (Transport and Travel Reseach Ltd) are delighted to have played a part in the recently launched revised guidance on the implementation of Station Travel Plans.
Unveiled by Transport Minister Norman Baker MP on the 19th July, the guidance is aimed at improving access to and from rail stations by bus, cycle, motorcycle and for pedestrians.
The guidance was designed in collaboration with the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), RSSB and TRL, with TTR providing specialist support. Based on an assessment of a successful pilot carried out at 30 stations across the UK, the guidance is aimed at local authorities, transport professionals and train operators. It updates the methodology for assessing current travel patterns around stations and the techniques used to surveying current users.
The guidance can be accessed here.
TRL and TTR are able to offer travel planning solutions not only to transport operators but other public and private sector clients including those from the retail, education, health and faith sectors. In addition, our sophisticated street auditing systems for evaluating pedestrian and cycling routes, as well as other street activities such as deliveries and bus use, can support the implementation of Smarter Travel measures. Our core team of specialists are experienced in travel awareness, travel planning, monitoring and evaluation, market research and survey design, stakeholder engagement and travel behaviour.

Notes to Editors:
TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and TTR (Transport and Travel Research Ltd) have worked together for a number of years and across a number of business areas. In 2010, a partnership was created between the two companies whereby TRL would acquire a majority sharing in TTR over a period of four years and in parallel, TTR would introduce an Employee Share Ownership Plan for its staff. This process is now well underway. For more information visit:
