11th Annual Transport Practitioners Meeting

Date: 2nd & 3rd July 2013

Venue: Birmingham

Brief Description:

11th Annual Transport Practitioners Meeting 2nd & 3rd July 2013, Birmingham Call for Papers Submission Deadline – Friday 26th October 2012 Introduction By being part of the Transport Practitioners Meeting, speakers have the opportunity to present to and network with over 300 industry professionals from the UK and Ireland. Through the Call for Papers, the aim is to encourage equally high-quality levels of content for TPM 2013 and perpetuate its reputation as the “must-attend” event in the transport industry calendar. The conference boasts a varied programme, with over 60 presentations to choose from on a diverse range of subjects. The timetable is structured in order to maximise the numbers of sessions available to participants, as well as boost networking opportunities through the social programme and add academic value through technical visits. “Dragons’ TPM” – Originality in Sustainable Transport TPM 2013 will see the repeat of the ‘Dragons’ Den’-style session designed to give young professionals (28 or under on 2nd July 2013) a chance to showcase their ideas and/or projects regarding originality and innovation in the sustainable transport arena. Three finalists will have 5 minutes to present their scheme, which will be judged by a panel of experts. Three finalists will then have another 5-minute session where they are questioned by the judges. The winner will be announced at the end of the session and will receive a prize. Poster Sessions A poster session advertises your work or research, combining text and graphics to make a visually pleasing presentation without the need for a full written paper. It also allows attendees to study and restudy your information and discuss it with you on a one to one basis at the event. Workshops If you have a project, idea or concept that is more effectively communicated in a workshop or surgery-style environment, these would be greatly considered. Please submit your abstract in the manner indicated below, clearly setting out your objectives, proposed methods and any equipment requirements. Submitting an Abstract Abstracts must be submitted in a Word document by email to Julia Sharp at julia.sharp@ptrc-training.co.uk by Friday 26th October 2012. Note that there is a limit of 300 words and that PDF files will not be accepted. You may submit more than one abstract if you wish. The Selection Process All abstracts, “Dragons’ TPM’, workshop and poster session entries will be reviewed by a committee of industry experts and all entries received before the deadline will be considered. Awards Ceremony + Dinner As well as the two day conference there is an Awards Ceremony & Dinner on the evening of Tuesday 2nd July 2013 where six awards are presented for the Transport Planner of the Year, Best Paper at Conference by a Young Professional, Best Paper Demonstrating Sustainable Transport Solutions, Urban Transport Design Awards and the PTRC Lifetime Achievement Award. This evening is a fantastic opportunity to not only recognise achievement in the UK transport industry but to network with fellow transport experts.
