Investment decisions need to be made taking into account: • whole-life considerations • whole-system considerations • environmental impact • economic impact Life cycle management includes the acquisition, utilisation, maintenance and accountability of assets. When a complex and demanding investment decision is being taken, the following aspects already need to be considered (among others): • Maintainability of the design • Future technological developments and innovations • Increase of traffic volume and future operational challenges • Improved RAMS within the overall system
