Next steps for UK road network development: planning, funding and the role of the Highways Agency

Brief Description:Guest of Honour: Stephen Hammond MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Department for Transport With the Chancellor having announced an increase of £3bn in annual infrastructure investment from 2015/16 in his Budget to go alongside the commitment in the Autumn Statement to invest £1.5bn in the UKs road network, this seminar will provide a timely opportunity to examine the progress and next steps in implementing government policy associated with the UKs strategic road network. Planned sessions consider how investment will be distributed, the planning and other practical issues at stake in delivering major new road schemes, along with discussion on the ongoing impact of UK road network expansion on the environment and local communities. Further sessions will examine the forecasts for future road demand and concerns around capacity, as well as the future of road network investment including the potential for road user charging and private toll roads.
Who should attend:Overall, we expect speakers and attendees to be a senior and informed group numbering around 150, including Members of both Houses of Parliament, senior government officials from DECC, Defra, and other relevant departments, transport and environment professionals, representatives of transport organisations, academics, local government, charities and passenger groups, together with representatives of the national and trade press.
