Managing Infrastructure

UK infrastructure consists of 350,000 km of roads, over 100,000 bridges and tunnels and more than 200 surfaced runways. TRL undertakes applied research and consultancy into all aspects of infrastructure including design, maintenance and assessment of pavements and structures, whole-life costing, environmental impacts and management for road and airfield pavements.

Managing Infrastructure

We lead the field in development of sustainable solutions and asset management planning and use of resources. Our purpose-built test facilities assess the condition of infrastructure and recreate the behaviour of materials, as well as full-scale structures for fatigue, impact loads, dynamic and static testing, non-destructive testing and the understanding of long-life deterioration.

TRL is as the forefront of innovative surfaces and sustainable infrastructure, with our teams investigating and testing new and recycled materials. We offer advice on winter maintenance techniques and work with utility companies and infrastructure managers on street-works and maintenance planning, TRL experts regularly advise on policy and assist governments with standards and specifications both in the UK and overseas.
