Sustainable Construction
The construction industry is subject to various legislative duties connected with waste and natural resource management. For many years TRL has been working with the construction industry and its suppliers to maximise resource efficiency and improve waste management. |

TRL understands the links between construction design, materials and waste management and provides an integrated approach to sustainable construction. We help to optimise the sustainability of a construction project throughout its lifecycle, including the planning, procurement, design, construction, operation and decommissioning stages, as well as consideration of transport and infrastructure requirements.
Our staff use innovative thinking in the development of new designs and materials which incorporate the re-use and recycling of waste and industrial by-products, and promote their application in the construction industry. We have particular knowledge in the use of sustainable materials in fields of road design and other transport infrastructure, and have developed standards and protocols for their use.
We provide policy advice and best practice guidance in terms of mitigating the impact from pollutants and waste associated with construction and demolition activities. We utilise and develop software tools to help our clients understand resource flows and to identify opportunities for more sustainable consumption and production practices. These tools include Site Waste Management Plan Templates, waste data tracking tools, CO2 calculators and life-cycle assessment (LCA) tools.
Our staff are experienced in knowledge transfer and information dissemination techniques to help clients put the principles of sustainable construction into practice and to guide the development and implementation of Site Waste Management Plans.
